What's it all about?

Rules

Safety

Safety is of paramount importance to all of us and the image of our sport. All aspects of safety are covered in these rules, but we are repeating and highlighting them here because they are so important. There are no excuses for safety violations, but event organizers and marshals can't be everywhere at once. It is up to everyone to police safety at paintball events. Be responsible for your own actions and the actions of others.   If you see someone acting unsafe, tell them or a marshal.
Safety at the Surrey Paintball Centre.

  • Treat every marker as if it were loaded.
  • Never point a marker at anything you don’t wish to shoot.
  • Keep the barrel sock on the end of the barrel until you are instructed to remove it.
  • Keep the marker in safe mode until you are instructed to make the marker live.
  • Goggles must be kept on your head and around your eyes when you are not in the Safe Area.
  • Always obey the marshal, don’t argue with them. Remember they are there for your safety.
  • Overall, consider your safety and the safety of those around you at all times.

Equipment

All equipment needed to play can be supplied by the organisers (Surrey Paintball Centre).
If you need to hire any equipment please contact SPC as soon as possible to make arrangements.

Markers

  • Trigger assist and ramping is permitted up to a max of 10 bps
  • Chronograph limit is 280 fps max
  • Fully Automatic modes are not allowed

Goggles
Everyone must wear EC approved paintball goggles incorporating full face and ear protection in any designated goggle on area. During a game, failure to wear approved eye and ear protection or removal of eye and ear protection constitutes a major safety violation, which will result in an assessment of penalty points and elimination of the player.

Clothing
It is in the player’s best interests, to ensure there kit is unmarked before they enter or reenter the game. Players will not be checked for marks before the start of the game. If a player is on the game field with a mark from a previous game it will be considered a new hit and that player will be eliminated.

Accessories
Players may carry whatever personal items they wish to the game field. However, they may not carry any tools and parts that may affect the velocity of their markers; items that can interfere with other players or marshals on the game arena; communications devises are permitted. Player's will be advised of the channels used by marshals and game organisers, players are not permitted to use these channels If the radio channels are being abused the organisers reserve the right to stop all players from using communication devises.

Inspection
Each player must be available and must submit themselves and their equipment to an inspection at any time while within the Safe Area or on the game Field. If you fail any part of this inspection you will not be permitted to play until the issue is resolved.

High Pressure Air
All players will be instructed in the morning (before they first fill up with air) on how to use the high pressure filling station in a safe way. If you are new to paintball or haven’t used our filling station before make sure you ask a member of our marshalling team to show you how it works. All filling stations will be manned by experienced staff.

  • Do Not Use the HP filling station if you are not competent.
  • Never use any type of oil at the filling station.
  • Never use any type of oil on the filling nipple or HP couplings.
  • Check to make sure the fill nipple is clean and has no signs of damage.
  • Check to make sure your air bottle is in date before you attend this event.

Game Arenas

Boundaries
Arena boundaries will be clearly marked for all players to see. Shooting at another player across a boundary is not permitted and the offending player shall receive a single warning from a marshal, if they continue to fire then they will be eliminated. Any players stuck by an offending player will remain in the game. It is within the marshal's discretion to return the player to the game in accordance with the paint check rules.
Marshals may warn players that they are in danger of going out of bounds. Should any part of a player’s body, marker or attached equipment break the outside boundaries, they will be immediately eliminated and must exit the field.

Re-spawn
Eliminated players are to make there way to the nearest re-spawn zone or exit point by the most direct route. All players re-entering the game zone will need to fire 3 shots over the chronograph.
Armbands will signify your status in the game. Every time you are eliminated you must hand over your armband to the exit or re-spawn marshal. When you enter onto the field you must claim another band.

Marshals
Marshals will; notify players of the start and stop of the game, when players are eliminated, perform paint checks, keep time and perform rulings and penalties necessary for fair, safe play.
Decisions made by all marshals are final and unarguable.

Game Play Rules

Players

All players are presumed to have full knowledge of the rules and format for the Big Games. Ignorance of the rules and format is not grounds for arbitration.

Start of Game

  • The head marshal will call “10 seconds” and then a centrally controlled horn will sound to indicate the start of the game or the head marshal will call game on.
  • Games will not be delayed for late players or equipment malfunctions. Players not within their starting area/ base at the starting signal will be counted as eliminated and must exit the arena.

Eliminations
A player is eliminated from the game for the following:

  • Receiving a direct hit from a paintball that breaks, from any player on the field of play, leaving any amount of paint on any part of there body or attached equipment.
  • Receiving a direct hit form a paint grenade or mine. Any paint splatter from a paint grenade or mine regardless of size results in elimination.
  • If a player is caught inside an air-strike or mortar attack zone.
  • If he / she violates the boundaries of the field.
  • If he / she signifies that he / she is eliminated either verbally or visually, whether marked or not.
  • If a marshal eliminates a player for any violation. Do not argue with the marshals.
  • If a player is not within their base at the start of the game.
  • If a player lifts or removes his / her goggles out side of the Safe Area.
  • If the Ultimate finds a marker that is illegal for play.
  • If a player is in the game zone without an armband on their right arm.

A player’s first priority when fired upon should be to check him / herself or call a marshal check to determine if he / she has been marked before continuing to return fire. Any player who is marked and continues to play will be subject to penalties. Before checking him / herself or calling for a marshal, he / she may seek reasonable cover in the immediate area. As long as this is done promptly and the player ceases all aggressive action he will not be penalised for failure to call them selves out. Any player attempting to hide, remove or otherwise conceal a paint mark will be subject to penalties. Wiping will not be tolerated!
It is the player’s responsibility to notify a marshal if he / she has a mark on him / herself that has been picked up from the arena, and could be mistaken for a direct hit. Such as; kneeling on a paintball, cleaning a marker, leaning against a paint stained barricade. The marshal will take note of the mark. Should a player fail to notify a marshal of an accidental marking that player is subject for elimination and penalties may be incurred.

Procedures for Eliminated Players

  • Immediately upon determining a hit, an eliminated player must signify their elimination by extending their gun or arm above their head. Eliminated players must remove their armband and submit it to the nearest marshal and exit the game field by the most direct route that does not interfere with play.
  • If a marshal is not readily available then the player must still remove their armband, exit the arena and locate a marshal as soon as is reasonably possible.
  • All eliminated players must move directly to their designated exit point or re-spawn zone, once your armband has been handed to a marshal you can if you wish go back to the safe/staging area or       re-spawn.
  • Eliminated players whilst exiting the field must have a barrel sock on the end of their barrel.
  • Eliminated players may not return to the game once they have signified themselves as eliminated until they have re-spawned.
  • Eliminated players may not communicate with live players within the arena once they have signified their elimination. Any players found signalling, verbally, visually or otherwise will incur penalties.
  • Eliminated players may not communicate with spectators or marshals whilst the game is still in play.

Player Conduct
Aggressive arguing or abuse directed at another player, marshal or spectator will be considered as unsportsmanlike-like behaviour. Marshals will give one warning and then will defer to the Ultimate of the arena to enforce penalties.
Deliberately firing upon a marshal will be considered to be unsportsmanlike-like behaviour and penalties will be incurred.
Failure to obey any marshals’ rulings will be considered unsportsmanlike-like behavior and penalties will be incurred.

Mutual Elimination's
If two or more players mark each other simultaneously, all must be eliminated. If a marshal is able to determine that any player was stuck first then they will be eliminated. The remaining player(s) shall be placed where the marshal considers they were prior to the incident, wiped clean, and called to continue play.

Paint Checks
Should any players wish to determine whether an opponent is marked, they may call for a marshal to perform a paint check. If it is possible for the marshal to check the player without stopping play, they will do. During such checks, play continues. If a marshal must stop play to make a check, the marshal will first call the player "neutral". All firing and movement by all opposing players upon the player being checked must cease until the marshal calls the player either "eliminated" or "clean".
Marshals will call a player neutral both visually, by raising an arm, and verbally, by saying "player neutral". If any players fail to cease firing upon the "neutral" player, or make an advance toward that player, they are subject to elimination at the marshal discretion.
If a marshal feels that you are calling unnecessary paint check or trying to use the marshal for spotting players, you will be given a verbal warning. If it continues, you will be eliminated.

Bonus Items
If a bonus item carrier is eliminated the item must be dropped at the point of elimination. A marshal may then remove the dropped item and reposition it if a violation has occurred.
When a bonus item is successfully placed in a base station the carrier will be called neutral by a marshal and thoroughly checked for any marks. If the bonus item carrier is unmarked then points will be issued. If a bonus item carrier is marked then the item will be returned to its start point and the carrier will be eliminated and subject to penalties at the discretion of the marshal.

End of Game Signals
The end game signal will be a centrally controlled horn or a "game over" shout from all marshals.
All remaining players must stay in the arena until a marshal checks them. Any player who leaves the arena boundaries before being checked will be considered eliminated.
Any issues or complaints relating to the game just played must be communicated to the Head marshal on the field at the time of issue. The Head marshal will make a final decision on the field.
In the event of any injury the game will be stopped by the marshal. All remaining players must remain in their position whist the marshals assess the situation. The Ultimate may then call the game restarted from the player's positions or restart the players from the base camps and conclude the game with the time remaining.

Chronograph
A marker's velocity must be set at or below a maximum of 280 fps.
Before each game players will be instructed to fire three "clear" shots over the chronograph before receiving their armbands. All three shots must be on or under 280 fps. Any player in violation of the chronograph limit will not be allowed to take his/her marker on to the arena. Additional chronograph checks will be made during and after games at the discretion of the marshals and ultimate. If a marker fires ONE shot over the limit whilst it is checked during a game, that player will be eliminated and penalty points issued.
Any player who refuses to allow his / her marker to be tested will not be allowed to play until the issue is resolved and will incur penalty points.
If a marker is choreographed after a game (as players are leaving the field) and found to be over the limit of 280 fps, penalty points will be incurred.

Armbands
Armbands must be worn on the right arm, between the shoulder and the elbow. When a player’s armband is taken off or missing that player is eliminated.

Unsportsmanlike-Behavior
Unsportsmanlike-behavior from any player carries a 50 point penalty and a Yellow card issued to the offending player. More than one offence will result in a Red card and you are out. Red Card's can only be awarded by the Ultimates of the field. Any players awarded a Red Card will not be permitted to play any further games and their team will continue to play the remaining games with one less player. Violent or threatening behavior will result in the offending person being removed from the game and possible legal action taken.

Self Check Zone
The self check zone is any part of a player or their kit that can be seen by that player. Including but not limited to, upper front body, marker, hopper, arms, legs, feet, mask and head. If you think you have been hit on your back ask a marshal or team mate to check for you.
